Volunteers Needed for Bisexual Health Awareness Month (BHAM)

Calling all those passionate about the health of the bi+* community!

Bisexual Health Awareness Month (BHAM) is an annual social media campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the bi+ community’s social, economic, and health disparities. The campaign also aims to promote resources, interventions, and actions that work to reduce these disparities.

The Bisexual Resource Center (BRC) is seeking volunteers to assist BHAM’s Project Coordinators with planning, implementation, and evaluation of the March 2017 campaign (theme: Social Health).

This is a great opportunity for public health and communications majors, sexual and mental health advocates, social workers, licensed mental health counselors, and anyone interested in bi+ health.

The BRC is seeking volunteers to fill the following roles:

Social Media Lead

  • Assist with development and scheduling of social media posts, blog entries, infographics, etc.
  • Regularly update the campaign’s website (bihealthmonth.org).

Community Outreach Team

  • Provide support to BHAM’s promotional efforts, including planning/organizing community partner involvement and drafting/distributing campaign press release.

Data Evaluation Team

  • Assist with campaign evaluation, including tracking and compiling media coverage and analyzing social media statistics.

These positions are unpaid and may require 2-4 hours of remote work per week from January-March 2017. Necessary for all roles: consistent access to a computer with Internet connection, word processing software, and email; strong time management and written communication skills; bi+ competency.

Email bham@biresource.org to help contribute to a successful 2017 BHAM campaign!

*Bi+ is an inclusive term for those who are non-monosexual/non-monoromantic and can include those who identify as bisexual, pansexual, omnisexual, fluid, queer, two-spirit, and asexual, among other free identifiers, including those who do not wish to use a label.

About the Bisexual Resource Center:

The Bisexual Resource Center (BRC) is the oldest national bi+ organization in the U.S. that advocates for bisexual+ visibility and raises awareness about bisexuality throughout the LGBTQIA and straight communities. The BRC envisions a world where love is celebrated, regardless of sexual orientation or gender expression. Because bisexuals today are still misunderstood, marginalized and discriminated against, the BRC is committed to providing support to the bi+ community and raising public awareness about bisexuality and the needs and experiences of bi+ people.
